Why every home Needs a Houseplant

Updated: May 3

Why every home needs a plant

Why you should fill your home with foliage. If you’ve ever looked at your living room and thought, “This could really do with a bit more… life,” then congratulations — you’re exactly the type of person I am looking to connect with.

Houseplants are leafy legends, chlorophyll powered champions, green friends who never steal your food or complain about the heating bill. Bringing houseplants into your home might be the best decision you make (aside from finally switching energy providers).

🌱 1. They Clean the Air — Without Judging Your Life Choices

Some plants are natural air filters. They quietly work away in the background, removing toxins and releasing oxygen like tiny, leafy superheroes. They won’t say a word about the fact you haven’t opened a window since last April. They’re just happy to help.

🌞 2. They Improve Your Mood — Cheaper Than Therapy

It’s scientifically proven that being around plants boosts wellbeing, reduces stress, and makes you happier. It might be because they remind us of nature… or it might be because they don’t talk back, create drama, or bring up that embarrassing thing you did at the Christmas party.

Either way: plants = serotonin.

🎨 3. Instant Interior Design Upgrade

Is your home looking a bit bare? Bit bland? “I moved in three years ago but haven’t committed to décor yet”? Plants fix that. Monstera? Trendy. Snake plant? Stylish.

Any trailing plant are basically decorative throw pillows that photosynthesise.

💧 4. They Teach Responsibility (But Won’t Ruin Your Carpets)

Want something to look after but not quite ready for a dog? Prefer a quiet companion to a screaming toddler? Enter: houseplants. They gently ease you into responsibility. Forget to water them for a bit? They’re annoyed, sure, but they won’t ring the RSPCA. Overwater them? Okay, they might sulk dramatically, but they forgive. Mostly.

🐛 5. They Deter Pests (Some of Them, Anyway)

Herbs like mint, lavender, and rosemary are natural bug repellers. A few strategically placed pots and suddenly your home says: “Spiders? Not today, lads.” Plus, they smell great. Unlike that shoe cupboard you keep pretending doesn’t.

🌿 6. They Give You a Hobby That Doesn’t Involve Screens

Watering, pruning, repotting, gently congratulating your plants for growing a new leaf — it’s all wonderfully grounding. Also, it gives you an excuse to say things like: “I can’t go out tonight, I need to repot my philodendron.” It sounds mysterious and responsible. People will assume you have your life together. (We both know the truth, but they don’t need to.)

😌 7. They Make You Feel Like You Live in a Zen Spa

Add a peace lily and a couple of ferns and suddenly your home feels like a retreat.

All you’re missing is calming music and someone called “Moonflower” offering you herbal tea.

🌳 8. They Literally Bring Life Into Your Home

And honestly? That’s the magic of it. Houseplants make your home feel alive, vibrant, and welcoming — without ever needing a snack, a walk, or a lift to the airport.

🌱 Final Thought

If you’ve ever wanted a living space that’s calmer, prettier, healthier, and a little more joyful… get a houseplant. Or ten. No judgment here. Your collection begins with one.

Your obsession begins with two. Your friends start raising eyebrows at five.

And at ten? Well, you’re officially “the plant person.” Welcome to the club.
